Root Canals

WHAT is A ROOT CANAL?

Root canal therapy becomes necessary when a tooth’s nerve is affected by decay or infection. To salvage the tooth, the living tissue inside it, known as the pulp, along with the nerves, bacteria, and decay, must be removed. The resulting space is then filled with specially medicated dental materials to restore the tooth’s full function.

Signs and symptoms for possible Root Canal Treatment:

  • Swelling or tenderness
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold
  • Severe toothache
  • An abscess (round bump like a pimple) on the gums

WHY DO I NEED A ROOT CANAL?

Opting for a root canal is a preferred treatment to save a tooth that would otherwise perish and require extraction. While some patients consider tooth removal as a solution for dental issues, it is generally more costly because the infection can potentially spread to neighbouring teeth. Root canal treatment is typically highly successful and can last a lifetime. However, in some cases, re-treatment may be necessary if new infections occur.
